Sheriff Cathey is a member of the National Rifle Association and the Meadow Branch Masonic Lodge. He serves on a number of committees throughout Union County, both past and present. He has been on the Law Enforcement Advisory Committee with South Piedmont Community College, the Board of Directors for AOMP and he is an active supporter for the American Red Cross, the American Legion, as well as the VFW. He remains an active member of the NC Sheriff’s Association and is frequently called upon by other sheriffs for advice and counsel. He was awarded NC’s highest civilian honor, the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, in January 2018. Sheriff Cathey is also a passionate supporter of local not for profit organizations such as Hometown Heroes, supporting families of local children diagnosed with cancer. He is also a proud sponsor of the Independence Fund, a national non-profit focused on providing aid to military veterans and their families.
